👍: The most popular option because of the flexibility of the schedule and the price. Moreover, it’s more personalised to your child and less expensive than an agency.

You can find babysitters who will:

– pick up your child from school and bring them home

– prepare snacks, dinner, and a bath, and help around the house

– be bilingual, it’s increasingly popular in Paris to have a bilingual babysitter

The price is generally more than minimum wage and can change depending on the area and babysitter. So, in Paris it’s around 8 to 10€ per hour.

👎: Fewer background checks. Posting the offer and recruitment are both up to you and it’s your responsibility to verify who people are.

This site offers many goods and services, including babysitting. It’s similar to Gumtree in the UK and the States. However, to become a member of this platform, you need to ask at least 3 people who already have an account to invite you. Once you’ve signed up, the platform gives you access to listings of people that offer babysitting services. Available both online and on an app.

3. Through Other People (friends, neighbours…)

👍: More efficient, trustworthy and personal

👎: If the babysitter works in several families, they may have less availability.
However, they may be able to suggest a friend/family member to replace them.

Be Aware

1. The minimal legal salary in France is 8,35€/hour (10% paid holidays included).
Then, there is 80% charges left that you’ll need to pay.

2. In Paris most babysitters will charge more than minimum wage. Depending on whether you use an agency, your needs and your area, you can expect to pay 10-20€/hour.

4. If you pay your taxes in France, 50% of the total amount is deductible.
